If you are planning a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Getaway cruise ship, you will want to check this out.
Here are what I think are the best things to do on the NCL Getaway. There are lots of fun activities and amenities to enjoy, but these were the highlight for me.

Bowling
Just past O’Sheehan’s Bar on deck 7 you will find two bowling lanes. The cost was $6.99 per game (this can change). You pay by swiping your cruise card.
It’s a fun NCL Getaway activity.

Pub games in O’Sheehans
In addition to bowling, in O’Sheehan’s Bar & Grill you will find a pool table ($4.99), Electronic darts ($1.99), Air hockey ($3.30), Skee ball ($1.66) and a selection of arcade games.
It’s a fun pub atmosphere and having a selection of games available to play just adds to it.
Keep in mind that the prices can change, these were the prices on our sailing and of course those can change.

Waterslides
Cruise ship waterslides are always a popular free sea day activity. The NCL Getaway as some impressive slides you will want to check out.
There are 5 multi-story slides including a drop slide.

Deck Parties
On the Norwegian Getaway, the evening deck parties are held at Spice H2O. This is an outdoor area at the back of deck 16.
It is an adults only sunbathing, hot tub, bar area for those 18+ between the hours of 6am – 7pm.
In the evenings everyone is welcome.
On our 7 night cruise out of New Orleans there was an “Awesome 80s Dance Party”, “Latin Fiesta Caliente”, “90s Throwback Party”, and a “Glow Party”. These are always fun.
The below picture was taken at the “Awesome 80s” deck party.

Relax in Spice H2O in-pool loungers
This is a cool spot in the adult only area. There is only a small pool with a few inches of water, but the in-pool loungers are pretty great if you manage to find them available.
Surprisingly we found them available a few times.

Try a mojito or two
If you like mojitos or have never tried one, head to the Sugar Cane Mojito Bar. It is midship on deck 8.
Choose from 7 different flavored mojitos.
We tried the classic mojito, the pineapple coconut mojito, the raspberry guava mojito, and the coco loco mojito.
My favorite was the pineapple coconut mojito. It is made with Malibu coconut rum, pineapple juice, fresh mint, lime, mint stem syrup, and soda water. My second favorite was the raspberry guava mojito.

Play Wheel of Fortune
You can play the Wheel of Fortune game show on NCL ships. This was hosted late on one night (9:45pm) in the Gateway Theatre.
You must have a phone to play. You buy tickets directly from your phone. On our sailing the cost was $25 for 2 cards, $40 for 4 cards, or $50 for 10 cards. The cost is charged to your onboard account.
The cards will automatically show on your phone so you can’t share them. There are 4 rounds.
Once the buying period has ended, they randomly choose 3 players who bought cards to play on stage. The rest play in the audience.
If the spin or the letter on your card matches you receive those points. For example, in my card below, if the spin lands on $30, I automatically get 60 points. If one of the on stage contestants guess “A”, and there are 2 “A”s, I would receive 300 points.
The next page in the online game is the puzzle. Once you think you know it, you hit solve and try to solve it. They awarded prizes for most points and for fastest solves.
It was fun and something I would do again.

Check out the model ship
Be sure to check out the Norwegian Getaway model ship on deck 6 outside the Taste and Savor main dining rooms. The detail is incredible, right down to the deck chairs.

Watch passenger lead games
Through out the cruise there are a number of passenger lead games that you can watch or participate in. My favorites were “55 to Stay Alive” and “Love & Marriage”. Both were a good laugh.
Check the Freestyle Daily (daily schedule) for the times.
They are held in the Atrium on deck 6. This is not a big space. It is a much smaller atrium than on many other ships. There isn’t a ton of seating, so you will want to get there early.
Norwegian Getaway Ice Bar
The Norwegian Getaway has a Skyy Vodka Ice Bar. This is definitely a unique experience. Everything is made of ice!
There is a cost to enter. On our sailing it was $15 per person which included 2 drink tickets. There is a very limited menu consisting of 3 vodka drinks and one non-alcoholic option.
It is a small space that is kept at -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
They provide you with gloves and a jacket/poncho thing.
I admit we spent only a few minutes in there as I was cold, but I do think it is something everyone should check out.

Get a Vibe Beach Club pass
This is an extra cost and something you need to book in advance as it often sells out, but I think it is sooo worth it.
You can read more about the Vibe Beach Club Pass and our experience here. Having to never worry about getting a lounge chair, no line ups at the bar, and not crowded hot tubs were so worth it, never mind the other perks.

There are lots of activities and amenities onboard the Norwegian Getaway cruise ship, but these are what I thought were the highlights.
